Trees are vital to life on Earth, playing a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, enhancing biodiversity, mitigating the effects of climate change and supporting human well-being. Limerick City and County Council promotes tree planting as a key strategy for enhancing environmental sustainability, community well-being, and climate resilience.
These efforts align with broader policy goals, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Ireland’s national climate and biodiversity strategies. The Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, has a specific aim (MH39) to have at least one tree planted for every person in Limerick.
